Chris Georgen

Hi there! I'm a phd in the learning sciences who researches and designs experiences.

Things I care about...

I’m interested in how people learn and the design, development, and implementation of tools that support learning. I brings a design-based research perspective to my work in UX that centers the perspectives, values, and histories of all users.

Design of Technologies for Learning
I research learning and technologies from a wide range of methodological approaches and design contexts. I’ve collaborated on projects in technologically-enhanced learning spaces including the use of motion-tracking in embodied learning, iPad annotation applications, and multimodal game design products. I’ve also worked on the development of large-scale learning environments that leverage learning analytics and adaptive supports. My research has received support from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, MacArthur Foundation, Mozilla Foundation, among other institutions.

Learning + User Experience
I received his PhD in the Learning Sciences at Indiana University. My academic and professional work focuses on educational technology, design-based implementation research, and embodiment. I have authored +20 refereed or peer-reviewed publications and presented my research at numerous national and international conferences. Previously, I conducted research focused on the incorporation of "productive uncertainty" into learning experiences at Boston University. I also have experience teaching at the K-12, undergraduate, and graduate levels.
